Searching for a zippy car for jaunts around Baltimore? There are still plenty of sports cars available, but some are certainly better than others. This guide from BMW of Catonsville looks at the 2026 BMW Z4 and how it compares with the Mazda MX-5 Miata.

Power

The 2026 BMW Z4 has exceptional power, with the base turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine offering 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. There’s also an available turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that produces 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The Mazda MX-5 Miata has just one powertrain, and it’s underpinned by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that generates 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque.

Space and Comfort

Inside the 2026 BMW Z4, you’ll find a roomy cabin with a generous amount of space for two people. The seats are comfortable and supportive and come with synthetic leather upholstery. For its size, this car has a big trunk that contains 9.9 cubic feet. The Mazda MX-5 Miata is also a two-seater, but it’s not as spacious as the new BMW model. It comes with cloth upholstery, and its trunk has a tiny 4.59 cubic feet of space.

Technology Features

Many of the latest technology components are standard in the 2026 BMW Z4. These include in-dash navigation, HD and satellite radio, and Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®. The iDrive® infotainment system has a big 10.25-inch touchscreen, and it can also be operated with physical controls and voice commands. While the Mazda MX-5 Miata does have smartphone connectivity, the base model lacks navigation and satellite radio. Plus, its infotainment system uses an 8.8-inch display that is not a full touchscreen.
