When it comes to car service, you need to get the right tasks done at the right times. There’s another element, however, that sometimes gets overlooked: you need to use the right tools. This is especially true with your BMW oil change. Our guide goes over the different types of oil so you can be smart about your choice.

Conventional

The vast majority of cars utilize conventional oil. This is generally the recommendation for newer vehicles that don’t have a lot of miles and are only used for light duty.

Full Synthetic

While conventional is fine for regular vehicles, it typically won’t get the job done for your BMW. This is because the engines in these models need extra lubrication, which is what full synthetic oil offers. It has higher levels of viscosity and offers greater resistance to thermal breakdown as well.

Synthetic Blend

This type of oil is a combination of conventional and synthetic oils. Generally, a synthetic blend is recommended for trucks or other vehicles that routinely tow or haul heavy loads. This oil is also good for handling extreme temperatures.

High Mileage

For cars that have over 75,000 miles, a high-mileage oil is probably the best option. This is an eco-friendly choice, as it does a good job of cutting down on oil consumption, as well as emissions.
