Since making its debut in the 1970s, the BMW 3 Series has been a major player in the luxury sedan segment. The model is now in its 7th-generation with improved comfort, handling, and dynamics. Let’s examine the 2021 BMW 3 Series and some of its noteworthy performance specs.

Performance and Handling

The BMW 3 series comes with rear-wheel drive as standard, and the manufacturer’s xDrive AWD system available as an add-on. The base model comes with an automatic transmission, though if you upgrade to the BMW M3, you can opt for a six-speed manual transmission.

Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine with an output of 255 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque. It’s capable of a 0-60 mph acceleration in 5.4 seconds.

If you select the BMW M3, the engine is an upgraded twin-turbo 3.0-liter with 473 horsepower and 409 lb-ft of torque. The acceleration time from 0-60 mph is clocked at 4.1 seconds.

A plug-in hybrid model is also available, a first for the BMW 3 Series. It’s powered by a 2.0-liter engine paired to a 12.0-kWh battery-powered electric motor. It can travel up to 87 mph with an all-electric range of 22 miles.
