More BMW hybrid vehicles in Baltimore, MD now offer the latest innovations in plug-in hybrid experience – all while providing the modern conveniences of accessible charging, new intelligent drive modes, and increasingly improved fuel efficiency.
What exactly are the driving ranges of some of these models? Let’s find out.
BMW 330e
First, let’s look at the BMW 3 series, which has just announced a move to the G20-generation platform. The plug-in hybrid version has an EPA-estimated electric range of 22 miles in the BMW 330e and 20 miles for the BMW 330e xDrive.
This is thanks to a 12-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. On electric mode, enjoy a maximum speed of 87 mph, and 68 mph on hybrid mode.
BMW 530e
There is also the BMW 5 series and its own PHEV variant, the BMW 530e sports sedan. Its electric range for the 2021 model hasn’t been officially verified yet by the automaker. However, the 2020 model was rated at 21 miles. Below the hood is an inline-6 engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 2021 model utilizes the same 12-kilowatt-hour battery as the BMW 3 Series, a bump up from the 9.2-kilowatt-hour battery in the outgoing 2020 model.
BMW XtraBoost Mode
The electric ranges of these models are possible in part due to the brand’s XtraBoost mode. This addition assists the transmission and electric motor while improving steering capability. Activating XtraBoost on Sport mode also provides an additional 40 hp boost.
