With the L.A. Auto Show rapidly approaching, it definitely is time for BMW fans to start getting excited about what’s to come at the popular American car show, most notably the new BMW X4 M40i, which leaked recently almost a full two months ahead of its official debut in Los Angeles.

Obviously the X4 has been pretty popular with consumers this year because, frankly, what crossover utility vehicle hasn’t been? Adding an M version of the vehicle will do nothing to discourage that success because no matter what BMW model is released there always comes a time when Baltimore BMW fans make known their collective thirst for a more performance-focused version of the vehicle.

The M40i version of the X4 will go a step up from the xDrive 35i model, giving drivers an extra 60 horsepower and 43 lb-ft of torque. That kind of power boost is exactly what’s expected from something with the M tag, so we here at BMW of Catonsville are very pleased to see that the new iteration of the crossover gets so much extra grunt.

That power will go to good use, too, as the X4 M40i is expected to jump from zero-to-62 mph in a scant 4.9 seconds, which is an improvement of three-tenths of a second over the xDrive 35i version of the vehicle. Tack on a new, sportier body kit that gives the car a sleeker look, and it should be right home among the rest of the M models in the BMW lineup.

While it’s not quite as muscular as some other M models, it does give the X4 the sort of boost that should satisfy those customers looking to put a little more speed and power into their lives.
